After finishing pool play 2-1, with wins over Carleton and Minnesota Duluth, Bird finished Saturday with a 13-5 pre-pre-quarters win over Kansas State. On Sunday, Mamabird started off with a win in a very windy game against an athletic Eastern Michigan team (13-11), then faced Minnesota in the quarters finals, one of Saturday’s pool winners in a very exciting (and wet) game, advancing to the semis 12-7. Due to changing field sites and bad weather one team from each semifinal dropped out, matching up defending national champions, Pittsburgh against the birdies. In a shortened game to 11 Pittsburgh pulled out a string of breaks in the second half to take home the tournament win, 7-11. The team goes into the winter excited to work hard and prepare for the Spring.

First Practice

From the desk of coach Jim:

Tonight is the first practice for the CU Men’s Ultimate Team – Mamabird 2012-2013. Practice will start promptly at 8pm on Franklin Field. Please get there early to warm up. There may be another team using the field before 8pm, so only use the sidelines for your warm-up – there should be plenty of room.

Everyone is welcome – whether you have played ultimate before or not. We will be teaching the very basics, and then getting on the field immediately.

Please bring a white shirt and a dark shirt. It makes it much easier for us if you are able to write your name on the back of your shirt (with a Sharpie, possibly on a piece of tape), or where a numbered shirt. We strongly recommend cleats as well. If you have an extra pair of cleats you don’t mind sharing, please bring those along too.
